Why Ypsilanti?

Ypsilanti has emerged as a queer sanctuary city—a place where LGBTQ+ people from across the region come to live, create, and gather. It’s local universities and colleges are among the nation’s leading institutions for LGBTQ+ students and faculty (including Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan and Washtenaw Community College). QUEER show founder and curator, Jen Eastridge, intentionally chose to settle in Ypsilanti because of its profound support of creatives and the LGBTQ+ community, and continues to grow the surrounding communities’ awareness of this collectively queer and fantastically creative town.
